Mervin C. Buss, 84, of Tripoli, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek of rural Tripoli with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating.  Interment will be in the Church Cemetery with military rites by Brandenburg-Krueger Post #4013, V.F.W. of Tripoli. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. 

Mervin Carl Buss, son of Herman and Josephine Keding Buss, was born March 20, 1929, near Denver in rural Bremer County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church at Readlyn and attended country schools in Bremer County. Mervin served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On December 27, 1953, he was united in marriage with Edith Franzen at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek. A lifelong farmer, Mervin also worked for twenty-five years at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo before retiring in 1991. At one time, he also worked at Potter Siding Creamery in Tripoli. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek and Post #356, American Legion of Tripoli. In addition to spending time with his family, Mervin enjoyed horses.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of Tripoli; three children, Brad (Theresa) Buss of Waverly, Sherri (Mark) Zanotti of Cedar Falls, and Jeff (Linda) Buss of Tripoli; seven grandchildren, Kara (Jose) Pineda, Emily (Brandon) Jones, Brian Buss, Lisa Zanotti, Haley (Ryan) Urich, Tiffany Buss, and Alex Buss; and three great grandchildren, Alaya and Jose Pineda, and Lily Jones.

Mervin was preceded in death by his parents.
